Hitchin, a small town about an hour drive from Central London. The main purpose for the visit was meant to be sign seeing and to look for a good pub lunch in the country. You know the Fish and Chips, Sausage & Mesh with a pint of Stout. Ah, a Sunday market! What a nice big surprise!

Actually, diawok has more than Two Alphason lor!

The orginial record weight you see in the picture is made from solid brass! Heavy lor! Balancing and leveling is a piece of cake. Simply turning the three black poles is all that is needed. No under table arm!

My dream come true! The Alphason Sonata with HR-100 arm

Heavy
A die cast subchassis and arm board, A one piece main and sub Platter weight more than twice than a Linn. Outboard power supply that feed AC to the TWO motors where you can adjust the Hz to fine tune the motor rpm.

but Niceeeeee......
I took this baby home after a niceeee Welsh lamb chop dinner at diawok den a week ago. Guys, you aint know what real good Lamb chop taste like if you havent try a it from the Welsh country! By the way, Richard Burton was a Welsh, look how handsome he was. Its got to have something to do with the Welsh Lamb chop. Forget about New Zealand and Aust.

To enable the Alphason to shine like as I remember it from a window display in early 80s London. I have no choice but to dismentle the turntable to give it a deep clean inside out. Sand off the old paint on the wooden rim and power supply front black panel. Repaint them to orginal colour. For all the brass buttons and the "Alphason" name plate, I have them polished and spray paint a shiny clear coat to stop it from oxidation. Oil the bearing and check the arm aligement. There were some scatter white paints on the power supply which took me sometimes to wipe off using Mrs bobui nail colour remover.

A NOS Ortofon MC30Supreme was under the order to mate with the Alphason. You know! The 80s with the 80s! The old bag with the old fart! Wowwww! Forget about any other suspension turntable lor! This is the one. A suspension turntable with weight. To give away a secret! Daiwok has more than one! Niceeeeee........

why not buy the new ones from Jensen?
---------------------------------------------------------------
The cows i got are not really that vintage la. Early to mid 80s made. Very proper and extended bandwidth. Not the 50s or 60s production only good for below 18Khz.

The cow is 1:30 ratio which is a good fit for very low output cartridge in the 0.05 to 0.2mV region. There are two models still avaiable from current Jensen web, one is 1:10 and the other is 1:37 (JT-43k and JT-34k) but i dont think they sell just the transformers. Must be in ready use package which cost around USD500. Mine roughly 10% of that lor.

What you are seeing below is a picture of some highly praised Jensen cows. Why so many as I only need a pair? Well, the other 3 pairs are for some very committed LP 粉腸s lor!

I was told that some of the best Neumann microphones used Jensen cows to amplify the signal before reaching the mic amp but not all mic cows are good fit for phono use. The ratio must be between 1:10 to 1:30 and the impedance need to be correct for a good match with the cartridge and mismatch would cause unecessary damping. The size usually not a problem simply because mic in general carry a similar output level as mc cartridge.

Dont mistaken by thinking cow bigger the better! A very dangerous assumption!

Here is my true one and only 大師姐 in red. The Radiotron Designer's Handbook. This is one of the big secret hidden behind all the modern tube amp designers in this planet. You name it, be it MJ, Bob Craver, Tim de P, I am almost certain they all have a copy hidden somewhere in their studies. Its kind of like a bible to the valve electronic guys. It was the reference as well as a text book for the hardcore electronic guys from late 40s to 60s. It covers tons of equations you need to know about radio frequency and audio amplifier with valve. There are more than a few editions. Look for the fourth edition if you could. You can download an electronic copy from the net. Some true 大師 here at 1pk know this book back to front. Me, still learning to finish reading the first Chapter lor!

Good luck reading!

Well Bruce, I had his book before Morgan's. That's easy to digest, pretty elementary, clear up a few pics, but won't let you have the confidence to build your own circuitry. In the end, I gave it away! Having said that, IF one is not into diy, & just like to know more about say impedance, pros & cons of SE vs PP, how tubes works, functions & spec of different components etc. then it's fine.

but there are many free books in the internet for that.

I have Bruce Rozenblit book. Some uncommon circuits which is a good thing to the audio society in general. When it comes to technical explaination he is jumpy and not very clear. He obviously doesnt agree on anything high price or even high tech.

Glass Audio were OK la. Sound Practice.......emmmmmm. Fun to read with plenty of photos on classic amps and tubes but cannot trust the contributing freelance writers lor.

MJ is from from a technical background with a touch of audiophile thrown in whereas AW is an audiophile with a touch of technical throw in.

To me MJ writing has more meat and bone. More indepth on basic electronic/valve electronic. Very careful in his writing at not wanting to offend others that are making big dollars in the audio industry.

Morgan's writing style or the way he presents. Instead of drowning the readers with a whole lot of equations like most authors did, he tried to make it simple for us to digest.

You prefer MJ or Allen Wright? Oh No! Allen Wright passes of Melanoma (skin cancer) in 2011. I was searching in the net a few minutes ago to see if AW has any new book coming soon. No more la!

AW was very out spoken and he had tons of theories on why we needed not spending millions on cables.

My goodness! US$232 for a copy at Amazon. Total madness lor! Freak price, Twat price, scum price.......

For this price, the seller should send you a signature nineth limited addition silver plated 3k carbon non-breakable 200kHz 6,000Watts into 0.1 ohms made in Mars Western Electric GEC approved valve tube copy lorrrrr!

I suggest you go to bay watch UK and search for Morgan Jones. As said, a brand new copy should cost you a little below 40 UK pounds plus shipping to US. Total roughly 50 pounds is all you should be paying and that would translate to around US$80.-

Or simply search at google and look for a free or lower cost download.

Knowledge does come with a price ah!!!!!
