It's a shame, we have to miss a live cello performance in the afternoon at this lovely "home" that the system owner prepared. However, we have to head out to Panyu for another couple of home visits arranged and not good for cancellation.

I would love to experience how live music sounds in this fairly perfect acoustic space!

This is another re-visit, 發燒李前輩's system, since 2009. Altec A5 is still the backbone of the system, with a lot more tweaking and fine tuning.

daiwok, in the longer term, I envision your system would become something more like this.

This is a system of a retired schoolmaster who had battled with multi-way, multi-driver electronic crossover systems for the past decades and returning to a passive 2.5 way + sub system for long term listening.

This system is super impressive with large scale opera!!!!

daiwok, I kept thinking of you when I auditioned in this system.

All these are being fit inside a 200 sq ft room with in a normal home and the energy output of this system is titanic but the gentleman (番禺Horn 王)tame the system in a way that we can audition in deafening level but without feeling discomfort and indeed thrilling!

Does it mean that this mercury vapor bulb obviates the need for further voltage regulation if the level is appropriate?
----------
it is just a fancy way to say that the voltage drop over the rectifier is not sensitive to current drawn.

Thanks!

Ripple can be resolved as usual through choke and RC network. Controlling impedance, however, is a topic I have trouble yet to fully grasp.

--------------------------------------------------
When a mercury rectifier is properly executed, I suppose it could be at best offer a fraction less desire for an additional voltage regulation but since most voltage regulation designs carry the functions to produce a lower impedance and lower ripple B+, it's hard to make further assumptions that a mercury valve can play a substitute role to a well designed regulation stage.

From RCA manual - "low and practically constant tube voltage drop for any current drain". Just imagine the good it does to Class AB1 or AB2 amps.

Such simple problem doesn’t need PK1 粉腸音響顧問團 to出手, I can just stand the MFA’s power supply on its faceplate! Some of the EAR549 owners are doing to the same to their amps :-)

How about for the cartoon box is 600 pounds each and for an extra 7.2 pounds, you also get one 83 valve.

kong, before I forget, mercury vapour rects CANNOT be mounted horizontal. So, it's not just adaptor + plug & play in your situation. Don't be upset, if the 83 is great, PK1 粉腸音響顧問團 會幫閣下想辦法o

Ok, enough of this bull shit! Lets move on.

My expereince with the 83 is very good. Sound more aggressive and the drums come closer to you. I havent had them connected for a long time, so plesae run the faliment for 10 miniutes before B+. Forward to Evil Kong when done. May be daiwok as well if he has TIME lor. And then we can collect our comments and draw a line to be shared with highhands here at 1pk. I got some NOS RCA 80 if you think comparsion is relevant.

Oh, can you build adaptor for Octal. 83 is US 4pins.

Believe there must a reason you purchase the AN years ago & lived with it for so long. Changing the output trans would certainly alter the sound, be it better or worse. One thing for sure, the original AN sound that you love is gone. Save the money for a second amp which provides quality that you think the AN is missing. Just my 2 cents
==========================================================

My AN 300B was an affordable way for me to taste the 300B. I will probably never able to afford any higher quality 300B amp. Welborne lab, Wavelength, Airtight, Shindo are all not possible to reach. If I know some shit, I will probably build one like you guys, but since I don't know shit, I became a population of consumer. That was sort of the thought I had for minute about messing my cheapo AN. But I am probably way to unqualify to do anything that will make it better. So I should scratch the idea :-)

I was only thinking swapping output cow might provider even greater degree of differences and perhaps improvement in sound

I was only thinking swapping output cow might provider even greater degree of differences and perhaps improvement in sound like swapping 300B tubes. Of course swapping cow require jar 辣雞 ... willing to try that if it's doesn't require redesign the circuitry.

I heard about Tango and Tamura, they both are more expensive and harder to get I believe, Might not be too suitable for amature like myself :-)

The SE12 is for two 300B per channel, parallel single ended. For one single 300B, you need the Sowter SA08 with a 3.5k primary load.

If you inspect the quality of each individual component in most commercial made amps, it's not uncommon that you can find higher quality replacement which offer a completely different listening experience. Do think twice on the path you want to take!

For output cows, there are some good options you may want to consider, ie. Tamura, Tango (JP made), Lundahl etc.

Should I attempt to look for a Sowter SE12 cow (http://www.sowter.co.uk/specs/se12.htm)
& swap it out of my A/N Conqueror. Is it suitable or more mod requires ?

I don't mind starting to do experiment on it if it will sounds better.

Cheers!

In a pub, conversation between two alcoholics,

A: How come you look so upsetted?
B: You won't understand!

A: Lesson me, pls.
B: I had this cheap chick last night!

A: How cheap?
B: Costed me a fortune!

A: Really, how much do you mean by a fortune?
B: 6k pounds.

A: What? She must be great!
B: Well yes, good looking. BUT, not even an proper outfit, to make things worse, tits are not in harmony, one side is visually significantly bigger than the other.

A: Life is not perfect, I can live with that. What about she professional service?
B: Have to say, below average! Whores at one tenth the price has been offering me more sactisfaction.

A: I am sorry for you, man! On the bright side, at least dream realised. Hey, I still didn't see anything cheap?
B: You know how much I paid in the end?

A: Didn't you say, 6k pounds?
B: No, that's the only quotation. Final settlement was $ 6,072.

A: What's the extra 72 for?
B: I had the same question. Her answer was: " Who's going to pay for the condom, you old fool!"

A: 賤格!
