I recently changed the wand on my MG1 to carbon fiber. The performance has improved. I made sure I got a thicker wall thickness than what I used before

scallywag, sure like to try out the ADC.
In fact, 2 more carts arrived today - waiting to transform them into Clearuadio carts. I also have 2 carts from Thomas Schick, one is a EPC 205 MK4 |

回覆 (1617): Black Widow |
The Black Widow was the logical answer to moving magnet cartridges like the Shure V15, the Empire, the ADC 26, XLM and ZLM, at a time when people were vying for ever lower tracking forces with super compliant cantilevers, from 20 all the way to 35 x 10 ̄⁶ or above. Since the moving coils came into fashion in the eighties with compliance averaged at or below 15 x 10 ̄⁶, the Black Widow quickly faded into obscurity.
What a pity, I still remember how fantastic the ADCs were while tracking at 0.7 gram. BTW only the ADC 26 could track at 0.5 gram.

Diawok,
I think my, and yours, Black Widow are the MK1 as they have the stepped armtube! The MK 2 should have a 1-piece armtube with texture:

回覆 (1616): Black Widow |
朋友,
during yam cha, the Evil Kong gave me his as well which means I have 2 in my household ! According to Master Limage and Alan Soo, this was the arm which could match the ADC XLM (I think - pls correct me). I believe from previous discussion this ADC could track around 0.5g ! and pass all torture tests !
Now there was a debate about whether the one I have is a MK II or not ? well my understanding was the MK was carbon fiber wand and damping trough. The Evil Kong said, "no" you have the "chicken" one like me @@ ! well it seems he is half right ? mine does have the damping trough ! but it is not a one piece carbon fiber wand ! so "half chicken" but I do not use the damping trough - so totally "chicken"
here is what an owner said ........ I guess I might have to upgrade mine ......
BTW, my Black Widow is one of the original ones, with the two-piece aluminium arm wand and no damping trough (the later ones had a one-piece graphite arm wand and a silicone damping trough). I have had absolutely no problems with excess play in the bearings (the bearing controlling vertical movement is actually a knife-edge type) or with the arm wand coming loose.
