Half inch is good enough. In fact, thickness is not that important in my application.

Limage,
Do you need the slate with a certain thickness (1/2", 1") ?
I am thinking of ordering a few pieces of slate in Wanchai for my audio racks, so if diawok is too busy, I may be able to get you a couple of pieces. However, I think the thickest they have is only 1/2"!

daiwok,
My system fine-tuning is about to end. I am now desperately in need of two pieces of slate to be put underneath the National rice cooker.
18½ x 3 inches each (or 4 pieces of 3 inch square) without which my turntable just cannot be perfectly coupled.
Any chances from your left-overs?

The Michell Orbe SME V with Clearaudio Signature, EAR 834P, CATL SL1, Manlet 300B mono blocks, was like a dream ticket in the late 90's ..... yet that all changed when I went back to UK for a brief stint and started collecting Lowthers, LEAKs, Tannoys, Garrards .......then this came along !

Even if the properties are right, no two turntable will sound the same since for wood this nature, there won't be identical pieces. |

only 16''...sorry to disappoint :-)
the thickness is 45mm.
i could certainly do with a donation of bronze this size.

Is that an 18" or 20" platter? It certainly looks bigger than 16".
I still think it is better to make the platter in bronze! :-)

Daiwok, ok, why not!
Limage, actually, 1/3 of the original volume were removed with the lathe. The photo earlier was just 1 of 3 boxes of swarf. As to the balancing, that's something I need Daiwok's help very soon but will wait till the spindle/bushing are made. |

The rules are you can mod the Denon 103 anyway you want so long as the output is not mod ! - damn ! well I would have been up against my own master on the bodies ! @@ spot it ? that body ? very special - it is tuned ! I have the very secret as well from the Master 8^)
This Frank Schroeder Commonwealth with is latest linear tracking arm - Master Limage do you want me to place the order ? I can jump the queue for you !

The Well Tempered uses no bearings at all and it is certainly a most ingenious design but then the hanging threads do introduce other torsional forces to affect agility in a manner that makes life difficult for the end user if he wants to get the best from this gadget---
__________________________________________________________________
The new model Well Tempered Amadeus uses a golf ball in damping fluid as bearing, seems like another simple yet ingenious design to overcome the difficulties of the old model. Just don't know how it sounds.

Master Limage,
What a skilful hands in vinyl world these days! It's an act, rather than scientific.
I think you must have done the cartridge alignment much better than anyone else around to prolong the life span of your cartridges. I guess usually the Linn head can last for 3K to 4K hours playing time even in the hands of skilful and careful owner. I couldn't image how much time you spent on the Linn alignment for perfection.
