Dear Ivan,
Do you remember the days of battle amongs Betamax and VHS ?
Years ago, there are HD-DVD (high density DVD) vs Bluray (Blue-ray disc).
In the old days, Betamax of Sony lost the battle even with higher technical spec. but today, Sony win over Toshiba (HDDVD).
Anyway, both HD-DVD and Blue-ray disc bears 1080p native image. |

Just got a new toy to replace my old Mitsubishi VGA projector.
This is new model HC6800 by Mitsubishi featuring 3x LCD, D7 panel and 20dB low fan noise.
Dr.King,
How's your new Epson projector ?

回覆 (930): open baffle beast.. |
These Yamaha boxes are indeed giving me some excitement these days but I don't think they will replace the W + P for good. Their tweeter and mid-range drivers are just too good/outstanding which make the woofer significantly behind the pace. What a waste of these super quality beryllium domes!
Just learned from a friend who came last night that he actually bought his ns-100m pair at > HK$3000. .......Don't know what to say. |

How creative it is indeed...!!
I just realised by having a second look at the picture that the orignal box is intact and was not destroyed, the only thing he did was to make extra baffle to hold the mid and high frequency units on top.
amazing idea.
Is Thomasc hing replacing his watt+puppy with these? |

I manage to hear 30Hz to 16Khz. Does this mean I need Super Tweeters and a huge Subwoofer dear friends ?
--------
oh no! what it means is that you can delete the tracks below 30 hz and above 16 Khz. after deleting those tracks, your turntable might be able to handle it.

A thought did cross mind when I got the free present from the Good Dr and I was suspicious that one test CD for LP lovers and another CD for Digital lovers. LP lovers will have missing tracks to prove they cannot hear more than the hardcore digital playback people can here ! Well I had to get that out of my mind given it was Christmas ! ^__* |

For what it is worth, I tried the CD on my battery turntable and got no response. Taking it to the next level I placed it into my SONY DVP-PR-50P which I was told is a Clearudio Audio Statement killer, I manage to hear 30Hz to 16Khz. Does this mean I need Super Tweeters and a huge Subwoofer dear friends ? |

so you are getting the full benefit where you sit

My room measures 21 feet the longest, some 20 feet short to develop a full 30 Hz standing wave. Half wave length, may be.
---
the first axial room mode is around 27 hz. and max pressure at both ends. so you are getting the full benefit where you sit. |

it does not quite work like that. for low frequency sound waves, it is more like compression and decompression of air in a confined space.
True, there will be no pure 30 Hz signal in music, but then a couple of recordings do go as low and they were quite explicitly demonstrated by the big Maggies in my former room. None of these breathtaking effects are evident though in my present den.
-----
if you do measurement down to say 1 hz resolution, you will see that peaks and troughs are sometimes very narrow band. you might or might not hit that during music reproduction. in order for you to notice it, it has to be relatively long. with the generated signal, you are hearing a 30hz signal for 10 sec. of course, it is possible that i completely screwed up and generate the wrong frequency signal^-^ |
