Yes fox hing,

I heard that cabinet play 78rpm. But the real attactive items was when Thorens 124+Quad 57 play 78rpm. I would think Garrad + Quad can do the ame with sweet voice....

the rest of the world
------------------------------
I have about six WE417A and roughly similar number on each of the other brands namely RCA, Raytheon and GEC. The truth is, I just could not get a good match pair of WE out of the six. The variation in gm is too deviate to be acceptable for my first stage phono. And when I told freinds about my findings, some just said: "you just unlucky" and "are you sure you have the real WE417A"!

Unlucky me!

Only WE coded as 417A, right?
----
i think so. 417A is WE number. the rest of the world is called 5842. i used that in a 0.5W single tube amp many years ago. i like the raytheon better than 417A as well as the gold pin amperex.

prefer the raytheon over even the WE.

I really only use the GEC and Raytheon nearly 99% of the listening time with my 417A phono. Soon, I shall rename it as my "5842" Phono instead! AH AH!

One valve and the other discrete components. A hard choice!

The Loesch consisits of similar valve layout as the Morgan Jones 417A. Only differ in the last stage buffer 5687. Pricing seems reasonable too!

"The second table I bought was the entrance level hifi grade EMT 150 bare table, where I had the SME 3009 finally installed.

The third attempt, a reference calibre Sony table paired with a very fine Stax tonearm, itself a beauty to behold. The amp was a Luxman integrated unit, chosen because of its highly acclaimed OCL output at 0.05 % THD, a time when spec meant everything. "

The prices of Lenco have been escalating and the ownership is surprisingly growing in Hong Kong ....... however did you know what was the first turntable Master Limage actually owned ?

........ rewind back the clock .......

"The first turntable I ever owned was in fact a Lenco, whose model I cannot recall now. It came with an integrated arm, a piece of artifact yet having a pretentious anti-skating device resembling that of the world renowned SME."

回覆 (1432): Terminator
For me, the Terminator is going to fit in with a modern looking turntable. And likely to be a hard suspension or just hard rubber isolated turntable. Belt drive or idle wheel is not what I care most. I am in process to search for some very light weight carbon fibre board in case I decided to build a turntable for the arm.

BTW, Daiwok’s Slate Lenco is not your run of the mill Lenco; it has special bearing and idler wheel, and most important of all, tweaked by his magic hands! So, don't expect that kind of performance in a normal Lenco ;-)

Thanks for kind words ..... I can arrange for a super bearing for you as well ^__* and the titanium idler wheel ......... and of course the new yet to built motor controller ......

_________________________________________________

The Rockport was more refined with better layering of instruments within the soundstage. It probably was also slightly better on bass and treble extension. However, the Lenco had better dynamics, talk about explosiveness in the mid bass!

Once the Lenco was placed on the pneumatic platform, its noise floor went way down and was comparable to the Rockport, even though I think the Rockport still had a slightly darker background. I believe the two are on a similar playing field, and considering the price difference, the Lenco is a true bargain. It is probably even better than the Rockport on certain kind of music. This is why I need to have them both :-)

bobui - once you have heard the idler drive, you may think again the type of drive system you want with your turntable. The reason Vic (Terminator) has gone rim drive is because he also started life with the Lenco ....... he feels his DC motor rim drive can out perform the Lenco.

Yes - it is in the plan to have Vic visit us at the end of the year. I am sure its going to be fun fun fun !
