Frankly I often cannot help questioning the true merits of banana shaped arm tubes or for that matter, the S shape variations. Offset angle can be better achieved through a twisted head-shell without inflicting too much lateral imbalance upon the pivot bearings.
Higher mass? May be, but one can always achieve the same goal through the use of appropriate counter weight without much fuss, let alone the additional costs involved in curved tube manufacture.

I never really tried a top-notch hard suspension turntable apart from the 301 with Ortofon 12" I breifly had for a yr (if you regard 301 as top notch, well, top notch vintage for sure). The Immedia look so curved, so mysterious, so uncoventional and sooooooo sexy, my immune system completely collapse! Oh, and the Alphason S shape arm tube was one of my boyish dream. I think I need protection!
Don't we all attracted to "curved"?

Bobui, a Triplanar or a Graham Phantom would be a good choice. However, if you want them on an Immedia TT, then you need to find one that has been predrilled for that exact arm from the factory. You just can’t change to any other arm afterwards, unless they share the same exact mounting arrangement. One possibility is that you find an Immedia which has been predrilled for SME arms, and get a Phantom with SME mount!
Limage, don’t put too much confident on your immune system! Yes, I think diawok is planning something hideous for you :-)

I am aware of the misisng original arm. No problem. I will look for one or if not Immedia arm, I can only think of Triplaner which mate well with Immedia. However, Tri... is not my favour at all.

Then I am afraid you will be disappointed, as the one I got comes with a Rockport 6000. As you can see in the photo, the TT doesn’t have a separate armboard, so it has to be predrilled for the tonearm of choice before it leaves the factory. Can't change to another tonearm now!
BTW, the condition is quite excellent ;-)

Diawok, apart from the beef up power supply and glossy finish. Anz major difference with the Sonata.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No difference .......... but I have the beefed up power supply !! check it out ! I have kept the one on the left ^__*
more indulgence ........
I sold the black one many moons ago but kept the gold one ........
incredible at the time, 2 motors, power supply, adjustment of leveling at feet independent of the chassis which is also spring loaded coupled with arm and the chassis is made from cast iron ! moreover, the platter was made from material similar to vinyl, the underside was MU shielded and it came with a record clamp ....... this TT is the same foot print as the Linn Sondek LP12, but it walks all over the Sondek back in the 80's
oh..... I had a VOYD with 3 motors we well ^__* yes I was catching up with my mis spent youth at University

The reason for this is to experiment the difference using current load.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Connecting a 4 to 6 ohms speaker to the 8 ohms output of a Valve amp generally sound more relax to me than matched impedence connection. May be is the increasing 2nd order distortion or lower current output.
You are modest. If the mentioned unversial switcheable amp appear to you, I am more than happy to pass it round for you guys to try out with your collection. Perhaps, I should put the 811-3 amps on hold and rush out the unversial amp first for fun.
Preview spec.
Selective HT for 250, 320 and 380 dc
Fixed bias from -10 to 80v
Mu follower driver to ensure lower impedence drive for even the 801 etc
Tango XE'20s ouput with selective load, 2.5, 3.5 and 5K
Heater voltage from 2 to 8v
Home made tube socket for US 4pins, UK5pins and Octal.
Sound real fun?

Those amps look gorgeous !
I want to learn how to build amps. After my first encounter with the Yamamoto which was a kit, I as glued. I spent 3 nights to put it all together. I want to build a 1W amp for my system, but the problem is my drivers which are 16ohm and I want to tap 32Ohm. So the output transformer has to be either 32Ohm tap or something like 16Ohm with 2.5K rather than 16Ohm with 5K. At the moment I think my Yamamoto is 8Ohm with 5K tap and I have a resistor on my drivers to drop them down to 4Ohm. The reason for this is to experiment the difference using current load. I have to admit even with my current setup with a graphite resistor on the 16Ohm the sound is more natural.
Have you have any experience with current load on full range drivers ? there is a full paper by Nelson pass on this. |

Thanks a lot for your kind words!
It was more of a copy cat from a mix of Linn, Manticore, original Roksan and Heybrook. I did not conduct any calculations regarding material reasonace frequency, supension rate/weight, isolation etc. The fact that it turn out OK was just pure luck and a bit of wood work.
Having said that I did enjoy the experience and findings. Lighter but stiff material to cure vibrations was something I've learned and discover.
Remember the modern looking shiny amps I showed a week ago. Here is the other series of amps I am working on that are lower power with the classic looks.
Power Trans and choke: Vortexion
Output: Tamura 5K F-2004
Driver valve: 6J7
Output valve: PX25 or P5/400
Rectifier: U18
Circuit: Single driver stage direct coupling (no capacitor) to PX25.
Chassis: Copper.
I am building 4 other pairs of same size similar looking amps for 811-3, DET25, 300B, and a pair of universal switchables for VT25, CX-250, PX4, 801 etc |

That is a very nice build bobui ^__^
I did consider making something similar when I ventured into DIY turntables but I fell in love with the Lenco and when on a different journey.
I still have a mint condition Alphason Sonata at home in UK but one of the motors does not work, but still runs. It does not have the Atlas Power Supply but has a Hi Fi news record review power supply instead. It came with original packaging as well ^__^
One of these days I might still resurrect the Alphason in UK ...... but I might just setup my Alphason Sonata in Hong Kong, just for fun ! |

Chassis:
The wooden suroound is made from solid wood and top plate wood veener on multi-layer 1 inch board. Wooden outer frame 45 degree was cut out by a picture frame building and the rest home made.
Sub-chassis:
Very light weight glass fiber board of 1cm think. Three point Suspension. The three shiny screws are for level asjustement. No need to get your hands underneath!
Motor:
AC motor with rubber casing screw on top of 3 inches height stainless steel base.
Platter
The platter is from a Heyfrook TT2. Bearing housing is made to fit in brass.
No bottom chassis, the motor with the stainless stell base sits on the hi fi rack/table without touching turntable. Free movement of the motor for belt tension. Can slide the tonearm towards the axle for 9" arm tube. |
