Next up cleaning up the idler, re-oiling the bushings, realigning the pulley, checking on the springs, adding oil to the motors spindle shaft
The levers were all greased up to ensure smooth movement in on/off and speed changes

Surgery and transplant started after early lunch, I did initially think it was going to be a breeze given the condition of the Garrard. It was quiet, but still needed some tuning and cleaning.
While the grease on the main spindle was aged and dirty, we decided to clean it ....... my GOD this spindle was virgin !
The bottom of the bearing spindle looked totally untouched !!
The spindle looked like it was just fresh from the factory never mind the rest of the Garrard .......
and the shit we cleaned from the bearing .........

Wow! Very good looking! But ain't it (the plinth) too heavy?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the Garrard 301 ..... about 100lbs
My double layer slate Lenco weighs about 160 lbs @[email protected]
It looks better at EVP's place and his Garrard 301 Grease Bearing is like NOS !!! |

Morning guys, you're early !
Just when the mind boggled during my dream visualizing a EMT 997 + 15 and a Schick + SPU A on this sizable plinth, a call from work woke me at 5:00 am. I now have to catch up for some sleep.
Not meant for disrespect, but only this photo shows its size .....

Thanks EVP for the hospitality at your beautiful home, my family enjoyed the wonderful food and I enjoyed your beautiful wine.
_______
I enjoy both, EVP thanks! Condition of your Cream grease bearing Garrard 301 is amazing! I've yet to see one of better condition. Your 301 in daiwok's massive wood plinth seems to blend quite well into your interior decor to my un-trained eyes. I look forward to more film-like shoots of your Garrard.
I can hear that you have put a lot of work in refining the sound of your setup. The introduction to Christy Moore is another catch of the day.
Ordinary Man, play with ordinary TT, ^__^!!

today was a long day, it could prove a very important day especially in the development of plinths for the future ......
......the other important thing was the surgery and transplant of one the most beautiful Grease Bearing 301's I have ever seen. In fact I am sure this 301 was close as possible to NOS !! It was challenging and everyone was monitoring closely but in the end success.
Thanks EVP for the hospitality at your beautiful home, my family enjoyed the wonderful food and I enjoyed your beautiful wine.
Now you have direct drive, idler drive and belt drive TT's at your home 8^)
photos later .............too tired now ...... |

Actually if I listen to my Lenco during the weekend, it is left on running 24/7 all the time - I have left my Lenco running for over a month 24/7 and there are no issues. The Lenco was in fact an alternative to the Garrard for studios and was indeed used at the BBC and throughout Europe but of course the popularity was not as high as the Lenco was not as flexible with its tonearms as the Garrard. |

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
really ? I thought they designed it to cook rice in 30 mins ^__*
nevertheless I like to understand a bit more about this high-end aspirations. All I know is that the SP10 replaced many of the Garrards at the BBC studios. |

SP-10 is different because it has been designed from day one with high-end aspirations. True, Garrard 301 / 401 are professional tables and that's why they have to be refined before they can be accepted as worthy high-end members.
Regarding the world's oldest profession, Dr. feikeung, I guess you don't ask for a work horse to give you tender-loving comfort, do you?

this is the same one Alan Soo has on his big system.
Do note that the SP10 MK 2 and prior to that Garrard 301 / 401 were the BBC Professional turntables and work horses. So I guess you have an idea on what a pro turntable will sound like. |

I've never owned or heard within my turf the professional series of EMT tables which are hotly sought after by mainland audiophiles. Cannot but wonder what these pro stuff would sound in a high-end home audio system.
Pro, by definition, are not terribly exacting. They are just work horses.

The seller Robin Wyatt is someone I have liaised with for a few years. HE is the guy who uses ASR Emitter for his QUADS and the man who introduced Miyajima cartridges to the western world.
Anyway back to the AER driver, its a MK1 this is the most chicken of them all ! I am using the MD3 which is like almost 4 times the price of the MK1. MK1 is entry level, so are you trying to suggest that I am to downgrade further my gear given I am using cheap cheap stuff already @[email protected]
BTW - I am not into enclosure horns which I moved away from many moons ago ! @[email protected]

If the subwoffer is only being used when you are watching movie, and not when the turntable is playing, then I think it is ok for the time being. Of course, it will be better if you can find a sturdy rack for it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, the subwoffer basically is ideal. I am not too sure if the subwoffer is magnetically shielded, but looks like it.
This is a temperary solution and I am looking for rack too. Long way to go....

Even if you have to hold the table on your lap, it will still be better than resting on a sub-woofer. <

The big question is what are you doing with a subwoofer? ;-)
If the subwoffer is only being used when you are watching movie, and not when the turntable is playing, then I think it is ok for the time being. Of course, it will be better if you can find a sturdy rack for it.
Another concern is whether the subwoofer is magnetically shielded; if not, you may have problem with the magnetic field affecting your cartridge!
