Vietnamese food, you need to go to Vietnam, just ask Alan Soo
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, sad I had to miss it as I was in Brussels and Dusseldorf that time.

San Francisco is also very good for Vietnamese food ! I had some serious Pho with some fantastic American raw beef when I was there 3 years ago. I do like San Fran as a city.

I am gunning to get some Pho before I leave ^__^

>Irvine used to be a very nice and relatively quiet place next to New Port Beach, where a lot of the nice yacht parked. I once saw a huge yacht there with a helicopter at the back, in camouflage no less!<

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think a lot more Asians live in Irvine now and it is more for the younger people with the malls. Of course those with money have to live at Newport Beach ^__* Further south Dana Port is also very very nice with lots of yachts.

I am now in San Clemente which is a nice beach town but more for the retired.

Coming to California before/ during/ after Chinese New Year is regular event for me now.

I need to squeeze in a Prime Rib before I leave 8^)

_______________________________________________

Daiwok, that is true, and if I remember correctly, Westminster has a nick name called Little Saigon. The same is true for San Jose near San Francisco!

However, for authentic Vietnamese food, you need to go to Vietnam, just ask Alan Soo. You missed it last time, but we are waiting for you, icefox and Tony88 to go again: Alan just can’t wait :-)

Don’t know whether things have changed, but Irvine used to be a very nice and relatively quiet place next to New Port Beach, where a lot of the nice yacht parked. I once saw a huge yacht there with a helicopter at the back, in camouflage no less!

Last night I went to eat out with my clients who are more like good friends now .......Brazilian BBQ. I could not help to think about my "fan cheung" friends here in 1Pekingroad. Basically USD 40 to 50 per person and eat as much as you can ...... we can skip the salad, although very nice, and the prawns, muscles, clams etc ......the main even was the BBQ meats !!! superb quality !! nothing comes close in Hong Kong ...

Starting off with some kebab skewers of chlli garlic beef, bacon wrapped fillets of chicken and don't argue with ZORO with the that big knife !

Sorry for the photo because the Bun was good I basically ate this and other stuff before I realise to take a photo. I only wish I had time for "coffee" There are lots of Vietnamese Coffee shops in this district, go to the right one and you get a nice surprise of chicks in hooter style clothes personally serving coffee ^__^

回覆 (913): New Arm from China
Diawok, here is a new arm for you to buy, looks like a cross between the Schroder, DaVinci, and Well Temper :-)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have used the Schroeder DPS before, its a very good arm, better than the Moerch DP6 IMHO but my Airtech MG-1 linear arm was more refine than the Schroeder.
I have seen this arm on ebay before. It is an attempt to stay original but the Schroeder patent is about the magnetic bearing and he is still in court suing Clearaduio.

daiwok, thanks for the Camaro! The Mongolian BBQ (and Vietnamese too) places were really popular even way back in the 90s, but not nearly as classy as the one you visited (they were more like a hole-in-the-wall). A blond I dated used to love taking me to those joints thinking it was a Chinese restaurant?!

ps: BTW, the body style of the new Camaro is a retake of the 1969 Z28, one of most desirable rods among collectors.

daiwok,

I have just returned from a gathering in the city with some gangs from the HiFi 惡人谷. Have another chance auditioning the following system.

It's another notches above from last visit. The full spectrum is EVEN more integrate now, very "decisive" and fast moving low, no overhang. GOTO high is unquestionable, it is more natural and less artificially surreal. Above all, full of music and engagement which is seldom found in many multi-ways 電分 system.

I asked to play some Mahler and piano sonata.......... it's breathtaking and at some point even heart-stopping with some gigantic passage.

p.s. Photo borrow from penndan c-hing.

daiwok, do you know where the lazy TdP "borrows" the motor controller from?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I spoke to Tim in 2009 Hi Fi Show, he said he could not make this turntable fast enough. The Motor controller is very simple given its for a small motor and for a belt drive. The turntable plater is made from Corian which to me is suspect, but the bearing platter setup is magnetic - just like the Clearaudio Statement. The true beauty of the turntable is the Omega tonearm from Helius which Audio Note UK has a similar OEM model as well. Helius made a name for itself when it launched its arm for the Voyd by Guy Sargent who later sold VOYD to Audio Note UK and went on to work with Audio Innovations I think, but now owns AVID.

I think the 130g is the weight of the whole block of copper before the milling!

I did a quick check and found out the densities of copper, bronze and brass, were all roughly 3.5 times that of aluminium. So, the copper shell should be around 40g alone, and 45g with the 103R fitted! I believe I have seen a half height copper shell in Diawok’s den, which probably weight about 30g together with the 103R. That could be a good fit for the FR64S!

Easy, I have a few diving leads of 1 kilo each which should be perfect for the counter weight. If one isn't quite enough, you could always use two.

Wow...with the head shell, it will be more than 150g! Even the FR64S will need some very serious counterweight to balance it!

Actually, I think the aluminium shell is about 12-15g, right? The copper one is nearly 10 times as heavy?
