回覆 (636): Ortofon Xpression

It seems Ortofon is getting pretty aggressive these days, with new models incessantly coming up one after another. I have been a loyal Ortofon user ever since day one until the Japanese invasion under names like Koetsu, Denon, Audio Technica, Supex, Dynavestor and design wise, Kiseki too.

Could this indicate a major revival, or death struggle?

回覆 (635): Ortofon Xpression
icefox,

have you already ordered yours ?

-------------------------------------------------

The Ortofon Xpression is a modern High-End cartridge with a standard headshell connector.

The state of the art product, the Ortofon Expression represents a combination of three elements very characteristic for Ortofon:
The cutting edge SLM materials technology pioneered by the MC A90 and SPU 90th Anniversary products
Modification of the generator system introduced with the MC A90 and the MC Windfeld
Ortofon design tradition

Utilising these three elements we created a new product in order to support our customers of SPU cartridges and Ortofon tonearms.
The Xpression cartridge bridges the gap between SPU-type cartridges and High-End cartridges like the MC A90 and the MC Windfeld designed for headshell mounting. The result is a high-performance moving coil cartridge with the convenience of a standard headshell connector, which provides a simple and elegant method of directly connecting the generator and tonearm via the Xpression’s one-piece body.
Since the cartridge length is identical to that of an SPU, the Xpression can easily be fitted onto tonearms without additional concern for proper alignment.
The cartridge height is identical to the SPU height, which makes further VTA adjustments unnecessary.
Additionally, the mass and compliance properties of the Xpression ensure that a proper match will be achieved with any SPU-compatible arm. The Xpression can ideally be combined with the new Ortofon TA-110 tonearm.
Finally, the Xpression features a Boron Cantilever and Replicant 100 diamond, found also in the MC A90 and the MC Windfeld cartridges, providing more responsive and transparent sound reproduction.
The combination of Xpression, TA-110 and ST-80 SE gives an undisputed supreme experience!

dkyyu,

It's good to have short memory sometimes.
In my view, Sauter is better than Petrof in sound, but not the price.

Daiwok and Fingers,

I asked about the Sauter a year ago, not Petrof. I don't play piano myself and my 5-yr old kid will be the end-user (supposed my wife) soon.... hopefully.

I agree on the Kawai and Yamaha excellent value. I have been offered a Petrof and as I understand it they tend to be more expensive. My daughter will be the 用家 as well ^__^

daiwok,

Funny that dkyyu asked the same question about a year ago.
Dkyyu's daughter is a 用家 and I am not. So better ask his view on it.
I am a Kawai/Yamaha fan. Call me cheap but I think they are really 平靚正耐用。

My Boss complained that there are now too many Turntables in living room - last count 8 in the living room never mind the rest.

The Wicked kong and icefox decide to take a couple off me to reduce any further ear ache ....... at the same time PUSH OIL was in order ..... I have to say both of them took away a pair of very quiet LENCO's

Part of the fun with the Denon 103 series of cartridges is the interchangeable bodies. After removing the original plastic body, one can change the body simply by plug and play - this provides you hours of fun or even torture as they all sound different ! are there ever enough bodies ? well ......... watch this space .....

Ice,

Thx for the compliment. I'm biased about mine but do i like Frank's funky 2 tone CLD plinth a lot. Mine has lost the clean top line once i have the second arm going.

Daiwok,

No more arm for me. Don't tempt me, need to learn to maximize what i have . Just waiting for Mr."So Allnic" to tell us if the new Allnic MC is any good..;)

i don't like LCR especially the L. i'm going to have a simple passive RIAA. i've not started the pcb yet since i'm fully immersed with sorting out my flat in china. once that's done. i will prototype a pcb to try out. it is so tedious to buy a flat in china.
