Given the present state-of-the-micro-art, the quartz speed control plus the logic circuit should be nothing bigger than a standard name card costing something like 5 bucks. There ought to be user replaceable cards for any speed related sonic variations to suit every possible taste too.

i took a quick look at the logic and control circuit. they certainly making it very complicated to do this job. but then why not just forget about it and replace with another controller keeping the motor and the rest of the mechanical stuff. |

I am sure diawok would supply all the roast pigs you could eat if you design the control unit for us ;-)

It is a shame that some of these SP10 MKIIs are not repairable due to the discontinued computer chips. It would be great if someone could design a whole new control circuit to keep these beasts alive, or to take it to even higher performance. With the advancements in chip designs, it shouldn’t be that hard to design a simpler, yet more accurate, control circuit!

Hi limage,
It is indeed good news that the SP10 MKII is working once again, and also thanks for getting us the sets of caps.

BTW, the SP10’s service manual and schematics could be found in the follow website:

回覆 (372): National SP-10 rice cooker |
The National SP-10 Mark II rice cooker at long last went dead last week after some 35 years of unquestioning service. There wasn't much warning though when he suddenly turned a grumpy old man mumbling all the way as he worked.
The noise sounded as if the spindle was grinding something as it turned. I suspected it ought to be the drive train at fault for which cure would be rather remote as spare parts should no longer be available. It appeared that I had either to look for a replacement from the second hand market where mint ones ought to be few and far between or alternatively, got myself ready to spend a fortune on a reasonably high quality cooker that hopefully might last another 30 years.
I could not have thanked our wicked thekong enough when he brought to me last Saturday his own National rice cooker. What could be more helpful than a direct comparison with the same thing was, under conditions that neither service manual nor circuit diagrams were available?
It did not take long when the salvage team comprising thekong, daiwok, Popeye and the little fox came to my shed to examine the problem. Much to my great relief, the problem in fact did not come from the drive train but from the power supply for which repair could be a lot simpler and easier.
Not nearly so easy though. It took me more than an hour to undo the stacked PC boards with more than a dozen cables weaving in between.
The main board lay on the lower deck and it was the heck of a job to have it retrieved for examination.
The high tension fuse was blown and two of the caps, all from the 140V circuit, were found leaking. The rest of the electronics seemed okay. Thanks to the self sacrificing fuse probably.
After an hour of hair-splitting, no easy job for an old fart to make sure the male probe would not be inserted into the wrong hole, all eight electrolytics were replaced to play safe and the final output closely matched those of thekong's unit, to wit, 130V, 32V and 5V respectively.
The National rice cooker is now back to work again, steaming perfect rice bowl after bowl and as happy as ever.

Good Doctor, that depends on how you paid and what frequency your Stethoscope can respond to. The stethoscope has two sides, one for listen to heart beat in the nearer regions the other side for the lungs. The high end stethoscopes can be tuned for frequency and these are not cheap.
Now you can have cardiology quality for less with the Master Elite Stethoscope – giving you 30 times amplification of sound, compared to the best acoustic stethoscope. This innovative technology provides exceptional sound quality even through clothes and thick, fatty tissue.
The Master Elite also offers you an extended frequency range from 20 to 20,000 Hz.
Multi-functional button with:
Light indicator
3 min. timer function
Digital volume control up to 93 dB
Sound enhancement filters: heart 20 – 420 Hz, lungs 350 – 1900 Hz
New patented rotating earpiece design
Connectable to PC through: Jack plug
Analyser ECG for sound recordings, visualisation and documentation
Battery – lifetime more than 200 hours
Optional – the Distributor allows colleagues and students to hear sounds simultaneously

This is a very useful tool to diagnose problems of the drive train of the turntable, be it idler wheel rumble, any loose bits, belt slip or bearing anomaly. All we need to do is to press the sensor firmly onto a flat area next to the platter, if we cannot tell whether or not the table is running with our eyes closed, the turntable should be very okay.

My National rice-cooker is now more ready for the duel with the Lenco in case it survives the battle with the Rockport.
A90 head to head with A90, only the table matters then. Oh no, the pivot arm Vs the air borne too!
=====================================================
Rice cookers are not cheap anymore ...... in fact it is not a big deal in Japan to pay from HKD 4000 to HKD 6500 for a serious rice cooker.
Now since your Rice Cooker is sporting an A90, it will need some time to break in unless you feel that you want to give me the sucker KO without any sparing ^__^ |
