it depends again, i have seen someone doing upsampling with just repeating the last sample and then zero order hold.

that's possible but then this is pretty crap. i dbout any erious upsampler do that. may be some cheap hardware upsamplers?

it depends, there are many ways to skin a cat. but in most cases, upsampling (resampling, oversampling or whatsoever) will do interpolation at the same time.  
 
similiarly, downsampling will employ decimation usually, DSD ---> PCM  
 
 
 
where do you think the signals of higher frequency come from?

But DIY =\= save money.  
 
I found myself spent a lot on the 1541dac that is ordinary a HKD1k kit only........  
 
I think, we should have at least one 'reference grade' audio gear as a guidance.

ah but this more interesting. i don't know how they come up with this idea.

if i understand correclty what they are saying is that using their version of upsampling, they found that the resulting wave form contain information in the original master source which obviously has to be more than 44.1khz if digital. but how much is there is not clear.

Don't stick with LITE, go for an used dCS Purcell, non firewire old version (around USD1500) directly. This may be the best opt. that you are looking for.

Interesting extract from DCS....  
 
It was discovered that the digital datastream could be ‘upsampled’ to 24-bit/l92kHz for decoding by high-resolution D/A converters, with surprising results. The cosy haven of purist audio was shown that CDs could be made to sound more musical.  
 
Even for the innovator and manufacturer of upsampling hardware, Data Conversion Systems Ltd, the mechanism for the sonic benefits was not easy to explain. As dCS conceded, ‘we have found that upsampling reveals information that is present in the master source, but which is not audible when the CD is played back normally. Upsampling cannot increase the amount of information in a signal and the exact mechanism behind the perceived sonic improvements is currently not entirely clear. We are continuing our research into this subject.’

但係聽多 D 野唔等於好 D,始終插值、升頻都只是加 noise 令人覺得好似聽多左…16/44 就係 16/44,要玩,小弟仍然是 NOS 支持者。

只係知 upsampling 之後解碼的 1 個 Octave 唔接近 20KHz, 所以高音唔咁易受污染,如有錯請指教....

No problem, I do already know the performance on 9500 with reference to hinhin's 9500.  
 
Since I found there is a 'click' sound on my prototype DVD+RW of HRx during playback, no sure whether you will get the same.  
 
For this sampler, I'd recommend tracks no.1 and no.5.

When I mean "noise", it is really the background noise ( not as clean as the CD transport).......  
 
The background is not as dark and therefore some details in music is not as good as......  
 
May be it is the USB interface problem as the chipset I am using is not super...... I am using BB PCM 2906 at the moment only capable of 44.1 Khz sampling.....  
 
I found the sampling is really important .... even a normal Cd upsample to 96K will sound much better....
