You may not be aware buddies, but I suspect DaiQwok is slowly but surely taking over wicked kong to perch on the throne of the devil incarnate.

The Lenco must have sent some vicious voltages to paralyze the Zono in order to avoid direct confrontation with the Rockport!

It is finally time for my upgraded Rockport to meet Diawok’s Lenco Ultima!

Daiwok and the gang delivered and set up the Lenco at my den last Sat., expecting at least a quick comparison with the Rockport. Unfortunately, my Pass Xono phono decided to quit on one channel, probably bowed to the immense pressure in the atmosphere :-)

The Herron phono was pressed for the duty. While a direct comparison was not possible, my initial impression was that the Lenco/Terminator/Midas Denon combo had slightly better dynamics and more body in the mid bass, while the Rockport/A90 was more refine and transparent. Based on what I have heard in Diawok’s den, I have a feeling that the Lenco’s dynamics should be even better than what we have heard on Sat.! I can’t wait to have a more meaningful comparison when the Xono is fixed.

One thing I am quite certain at this point is that the Lenco Ultima is comparable to the Rockport in background noise (or lack of). I couldn’t detect any rumble, which was supposed to be one the last hurdle for the idler drive.

Last Sat a bunch of very anal analogue freaks getting together (surprisingly early) at daiQwok's den offering our helping hands. It's to move that massive La Slate de Lenco to the wicked Kong's den for some serious work out.

In very short time, we manage to get things in order.

Yes, is really what I can say at the moment. It helps me to understand better the following description from Master Limage,

"鼓有鼓眼與鼓皮之分。鼓皮在 100 週樓下,是沒有方向性的;鼓眼在中頻,容易辨別方向。擂鼓的時候,鼓眼先到,故此能分辨方位,鼓皮的震動四面八方隨之而來,填滿房間,致令人有震撼的感覺。"

Please DO NOT modify the 927s.............. none of them improved the sonic qualities of those machines.
______________
Hello everybody,

it's my first message here so forgive me if I am new to all this. I write this here because I am not sure that a private message to the person informing me of this event did arrive to destination.

My name is Stefano Pasini and I collect/study/listen to EMT turntables since 20+ yrs. Katharine kindly informed me that 3 members of this forum were just given three EMT 927s. Awesome! Finding a 927 is an extraordinary event, and having three resurfacing at once sounds like it's science fiction. The 927A, as you might know, is the Holy Grail of EMT turntables and is arguably the best turntable ever built, period. Of course you will find many more details about it in my site

http://www.stefanopasini.it/EMT_index_main.htm

Please DO NOT modify the 927s. Me and other EMT collectors (in the past I have owned maybe 40 EMTs of all types and still own 6) have tried in the past to do some modification: none of them improved the sonic qualities of those machines. The shortening of the tube to use a standard SME shell is particularly loatshome: it destroys the geometry of a superb tonearm that will never, ever sound as well again.

Then, why using a SME shell? To fit cheap MM cartridges? Like putting Diesel fuel in a Bugatti 35 to save on the cost of fuel..... EMT's are at their best when they you use ONLY EMT parts. If you want to use SME shells please buy a Schick arm and keep the Ortofon as a spare, it will add up to the final value of the 927 (that is, as you know, substantial.)

If you and your fellow owners of those 927 would like try to find out how a 'complete' 927 sounds, I would happily lend you a stereo 155st phono preamp and a TSD15 cartridge to test the 927s in their natural setup configuration; you would return them to me after the test (let's 15 days each?) This way I'm sure that you will understand that the idea of any irreversible modification would be a crime.

The 927 needs no special tricks to be recommissioned. Usually a new rubber idler wheel (Euro 100) a proprietary EMT headshell (Euro 100, if you don't want to buy the complete cartridge), a good cleaning/lube job will be enough to have the best machine in the world runnin again. The oil reservoir under the main bearing accepts very 'thin' oil (NOT sewing-machine type but like machining oil for lathes etc) and I must check how much would it be; in the smaller 930 you need to put 25 cc of oil inside, probably more in the 927.

Please let me know if you need any advice. I'm on holiday until wednesday but I shall be very happy to help you during the first stage of 'learning' this wonderful machine. At home I'll check if I have a 927 manual in english, I'm not sure.

Thanks again for your wonderful news. I'm happy that these three historic machines have been saved!

Cheers

Stefano

daiwok,

The other days, we were talking about what is possibly good gift disc, CD/LP, for our 老外 guests. I think I find one today. I am listening to it. It is not as heavy as those CD like 粉墨,I can't really finish one from start to end. This one is a sampler from 瑞鳴. I learned from Limage that they have some great recording skills and music content of certain disc are great too and there are great variety of music in these discs.

Why was there the need to make 16 inch platter?

I’ve never seen any LP bigger than the standard 12 inches.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

16 inch vinyl was used really during world war II and also radio stations for playing back long messages. It was never a commercial product. However for the vinyl enthusiast, a 16 inch platter has greater inertia and certainly playing back a 12 inch LP would have sonic benefits - the new EAT turntable has a 16 inch platter. I have also considered making a 16 platter myself. I have drawings ready but never got round to do it yet ^__^
